Creative Ideas For Your Home

Get Creative With Home Office Furniture

Your home is your castle and it’s natural to want to present your rooms in the best possible way to get your friends and family talking.

It seems that everybody nowadays is trying to out-chic or out-kitsch each other with accent walls and bright, garish paint colours. But rather than draw attention to your décor, why not keep your room colours neutral and instead draw attention to the furniture within it? This is sure to impress and could lead to the sincerest form of flattery (imitation!)

Swap Your Dining Table For A Boardroom Table

Good quality dining room or kitchen tables can be very expensive. If you hunt around, you might find that some smaller boardroom or meeting tables are actually very competitive in price. For instance, the meeting table in the following image comfortably seats 8 people and is surprisingly affordable. It also comes in a variety of different wood finishes such as walnut, white and cherry.

Of course the advantage to using a boardroom table is that you end up with a multi-functional table. By incorporating a cable management system you can also use it as a functional workspace or meeting area for your home-based business. Doing this will put an end to extension leads and so forth trailing across your table while working. When using the table for dining, simply cover the table with good quality table linen and none of your dinner guests will be any the wiser.

You could even get REALLY creative and use the cable ports (holes) in the table as flower holders. You will need a small vase which is wider at the top that will safely sit in the hole without slipping through. Make sure that this will not obstruct your guests seating position.

Reproduction Furniture

If you are fortunate enough to live in a large older style home, using reproduction furniture designed primarily for office use could be a great alternative to buying antiques.

This image shows how you can create a really impressive looking home office using reproduction furniture. Now imagine this same room, but with the office desk and chair removed. Suddenly this same space looks like it could be a living room.  The classic look of the leather sofa, armchair and coffee table perfectly complement the storage units in the background and would be suitable for a variety of home configuration options. It is fair to say that this type of furniture does not come cheap but what you get is quality and luxury and often at a fraction of the cost of an antique equivalent.

Use An Office Partition To Screen Off An Area Of A Room

Something else you can try is using a screen to separate areas of a room.  I appreciate that this image is very much office based but with a little creative thought I’m sure you can think of some possible uses. For instance, this portable screen could be used in a kitchen to prevent an area from being splattered either by water, hot oil or other food preparation. You could also use it to divide up a children’s play area or perhaps use a larger, opaque screen to use as a discreet dressing area in your bedroom.

Price Comparison

Although you might not be aware of it, some office furniture companies supply items which you might not otherwise expect. Examples of these are coffee tables, bistro & bar stools (great for breakfast bars), artificial plants with pots, coat stands and task lamps.  I mention this because rather than heading straight for your nearest garden centre or home interior company, you might just want to do a quick price comparison. You may manage to bag yourself a bargain from an unlikely source!

Block Benches

Leading on from the previous point, café & bistro tables can make an unusual addition to your kitchen area. Block bench seating as shown in the image has become increasingly popular in recent times. Again, it is worth price comparing tables supplied by office furniture companies as well as home furnishers.

All of these are great advice, although I really don’t stand your last option: block benches. I find them very uncomfortable. However, what I enjoyed most in your post was the idea of  swapping the dining table with a boardroom table. It’s multifunctional and cool! :)
